Welcome to the latest edition of Lowland Locomotives.

Initially this site was going to be purely a gallery of my photographs to show the variety of locomotives to be found in Central Scotland, an area often overlooked by railway enthusiasts in favour of the scenic splendour of the Highlands.  However during the composition of the site, I became seriously immersed in background research for the Monkland page (now 22 pages) to such an extent that this has become a comprehensive history of the railways in this area. This idea has also been spread to some of the other pages, albeit to a much lesser extent.
The other galleries show some of the more unusual workings of  locomotives and stock,  as well as examples of engines plying their normal routes.  I now have some photographs from various contributers, and I thank them all for allowing me to publish them. (Keep them coming!!)
I hope that you find the site entertaining & informative.  Please let me know what you think!
