Welcome
to the latest edition of Lowland Locomotives.
Initially this site
was going to be purely a gallery of my photographs to show the variety
of locomotives to be found in Central Scotland, an area often overlooked
by railway enthusiasts in favour of the scenic splendour of the Highlands.
However during the composition of the site, I became seriously immersed
in background research for the Monkland page (now 22 pages) to such
an extent that this has become a comprehensive history of the railways
in this area. This idea has also been spread to some of the other pages,
albeit to a much lesser extent.
