Since 1961 the class 303's have been an everyday sight at the Central, working trains to the Cathcart Circle, Neilston, Weymss Bay and several others.  Year 2000 should see the end of these popular units with the technically superior, though asthetically inferior class 322's replacing them.
On the 22nd of February 1992, Scotrail ran the  "Coast to Coast" Railtour using a class 305 EMU, bringing this type of unit into Glasgow Central for the fiirst, (and possible only) time.  305519 waits to depart with the tour
The similarities between the class 318 EMU and the class 156 DMU are evident in this shot of 318254 departing on a Gourock service as 156430 approaches the station.
On November 10th 1999, class 314's  314209 (in old Strathclyde livery) and 314211 (in new Strathclyde livery) await their departures to the Cathcart Circle and Newton respectively.  With the introduction of the juniper units still some months away, the cascading of these units to routes which had previously been the preserve of class 303's was well under way.   314's were rare visitors to Central High Level before the latter half of 1999.
