On the 18th of October 1985 engineering operations brought 20179 into the station on a train of spoil wagons.  47423 waits in platform 2 with the 10:40  express to London, which on that date was diverted via Kilmarnock.
This is one of  the oldest photogaphs in my collection and dates from 1981.  It shows  class 25 no. 25067 leaving the Central on the 14:00 Carlisle stopping service via Kilmarnock

On the 31st of October 1993, LMS black 5, no. 44871 "Sovereign" made three trips to East Kilbride to mark the 150th anniversary of the branch.  Due to operational difficulties, it was only possible to have steam haulage on the outward journey and it was necessary to provide a diesel locomotive to work the train back to the Central.  The locomotive chosen was 37275, which had recently been named "Oor Wullie" after the cartoon character in the Scottish Sunday Post.
An evening shot of an HST departing from platform 10 as empty stock for Craigentinny while the up "Postal" is loaded in platform 11.
47546 "Aviemore Centre" in large logo blue livery with Inverness "Stag" logo on the cab side, works light engine out of the station having arrives on a Stranrear boat train.
On the 5th of February 1994, D400 and D433 were paired up for one last journey along the WCML to Glasgow, bringing back memaries of the late 1960's & early 1970's when these locomotives were a common sight on the principal services to the South.  The locomotives are seen here leaving the Central for Motherwell Depot for refuelling
HST power car 43093 arrives at Glasgow with a service from the South West.  Displaced from their original duties on the ECML by te class 91's, the HST's replaced electric locomotive hauled trains on services to the West of England, avoiding the need for locomive changes at Birmingham.
